In the past few years, TV viewing habits have gone from weekly watching to binge watching. Showtime hadn’t caught up with competitors and user behavior, and offered no easy way to watch multiple episodes in a row.
This feature launched on several platforms at the same time, which was a task in coordination across product teams. Designs across devices were intended to be as consistent as possible, while still following platform-specific best practices, restrictions, and styles.
On 10-foot devices, a longer timer was set, allowing users to find their remote and make a decision.
When playing a downloaded title on a mobile device, an additional option to “delete and play next” would appear, giving users a quick way to manage their device storage.
If no explicit action was taken, the next episode would play automatically. Along with this new feature, a “are you still watching” screen would appear to stop users from accidentally running through too many episodes.
